Servant Leadership SessionsServant Leadership: Threshold to a Life TransformedHave you ever wondered how you can make a difference? How you can respond to the huge issues of injustice in our world? Are you struggling to find your own call of the Spirit? Are you hungry for meaning and direction? Then this course is for you! It can help you discover direction and purpose. This program is a powerful forum to explore these issues in the context of a caring community. In this nearly year long process you will be treated like a servant leader from the moment you first walk in the door. The experience will help you discover a way with others to use your passion to create a difference. Beginning in September this 10 month group process meets every two weeks for 3 hours. Each group determines together the day and time of those meetings. Most sessions follow a similar pattern: we share a meal, pray, and dialogue about the focus topic for that session. Participants are asked to prepare for the session by doing some reading and journaling. Cost of participation is $400.00 billed over the 10 months and covers the cost of all materials used throughout the 10 months. Scholarships are always available. Sessions begin in September and end in June. WHAT TO EXPECT An integral part of the human experience is to hunger for a more just world. At the same time, when we see and hear about all of the chaos occurring across the universe it is easy to feel overwhelmed. Often we think, “What can I do?” We at The Servant Leadership Center firmly believe that each of us is called to play a part in working for justice. Using group and personal prayer, common readings, dialogue, and shared meals, the process, “Servant Leadership: Threshold to a Life Transformed, provides an opportunity to: ¨ Form community with others traveling a similar journey ¨ Be more intentional about one’s spiritual journey ¨ Surface and explore deeply held beliefs and values ¨ Discover how God is calling me at this time and place; (The place God calls you to is the place where your heart’s deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet. - Frederick Buechner) ¨ Connect with others who share a passion in working for justice In our process we lay the foundation by exploring three truths: ¨ Each of us is the Beloved of God. This means not only those who share like values and beliefs. My friend, my enemy, my neighbor who irritates me, the people in Iraq, those in Africa and Asia; all are the Beloved of God. In light of this, how am I challenged to treat myself and all others on the earth with dignity? ¨ God has a dream for us. What is it that God wants for our world? How do I fit into the dream? That is, what part am I to play in the unfolding of that dream? ¨ The fundamental option for the poor is an integral part of the Gospel message. Who are the people/marginalized? What are the systems that continue to create the gap between the rich and poor; the systems that keep people who are marginalized in “their place?”. How am I part of those systems. After exploring these three fundamental truths, we look at issues that help us gain wisdom and clarity in embracing and living with these truths. We explore:¨ The necessity for us to be in Community as we move often in countercultural ways to root the foundational beliefs in our lives. ¨ We look at the Abundant Life in contrast to the “Good Life.” We determine how our attitudes and practices with money and our resources impact others in the world. ¨ We examine the use of Power. We look at what we learned about power in our family of origins. We seek to determine how and where we abuse power either by giving it up or by taking it inappropriately. We also explore how our use of power influences people who are marginalized. In light of all that we have explored and all of our life experiences we explore:¨ Our Gifts, not just the obvious things that we can name about each other. We look deeper into what is our passion. ¨ We then look at our gifts within the context of how are we being Called to use them, therefore we explore more deeply the nature of Call. ¨ Finally, after exploring the nature of Call we move to formal Discernment seeking to answer the question: “What is it that God is asking of me at this time in my life given my present responsibilities and circumstances?” We would love to talk to you further.Contact us to learn more about the program.
